Atlas
K-9 Atlas is originally from Hungary, born in November 2021. He joined the Superior Police Department in May 2023 and is partnered with Officer Charlie Mahlen. This German Shepherd/Malinois mix is dual-purpose – certified for patrol work and narcotics detection.
In just his first few weeks on the job, K-9 Atlas was used in several suspected narcotics cases, resulting in getting illegal drugs off the street and the arrests of the people involved.
K-9 Atlas is a friendly and playful dog. He loves playing with his Kong on a rope. Away from work, his happy place is on the porch, relaxing (with his Kong, of course) after a long run.
He’s also developed a sweet routine with his human partner. At the end of their shift, when Officer Mahlen takes off his vest, K-9 Atlas is there to give him a hug before bedtime. Officer Mahlen describes it, “It’s an expectation at this point. He puts his paws up on me and puts his head against me as if he knows the day is over and it’s time to relax before bed.”
Luca
K-9 Luca joined the Superior Police Department in May 2025 and is partnered with Officer Tony Schroeder.
Luca is dual-purpose K9, trained in narcotics detection, article searches, and apprehension.
